Have you or a loved one suffered from chronic pain or weight gain? Have you been to a conventional doctor who has simply prescribed pain killers or diets and sent you out the door without a closer look?
At Ramos Center, we realize that each and every one of our patients is different and therefore, deserves their own diagnosis and treatment plan. We use a combination of integrative and functional medicine to investigate and discover the true source of the issue our patients are experiencing. There are many similarities between integrative and functional medicine practices but they also have differentiations. Ramos Center uses both holistic approaches to regain our patient’s well being and pain free lifestyle, instead of simply sending them off with a prescription.
Integrated medicine is an approach to medical care that not only believes in focusing what is wrong within the body physically, but at the full range of emotional, mental, social and environmental influences that can affect a person’s health. It also emphasizes the relationship between a patient and physician as it should be fluid by accomplishing easy conversations. This is a priority because if integrative medicine is going to work, the physician must be able to understand the patient’s unique set of circumstances.
The diagnosis process uses many standard medical techniques to ensure the patient is not in need of more extreme medical intervention. This will often include blood draws and x-rays. From there, a physician will customize a treatment plan for each patient. The treatment plan will be organized by the patient’s condition and life circumstances. Physicians will often look at both conventional and alternative solutions as well as nutrition and exercise to help their patients achieve a full recovery.
Functional medicine focuses on the underlying cause of pain and weight gain. It differs from integrative medicine in the sense that, it is not a treatment based medicine. They look at the cause and then begin planning a treatment. It is similar in the way that the physician will then treat their patient holistically, using many of the same treatment options as integrated medicine.
As stated above, the diagnosis is where the big difference lies between integrative and functional medicine but the treatment plan and methods are very similar. Treatments may include:
