Graston Technique® for Soft Tissue Injuries

The Graston Technique®

This non-invasive technique uses a set of six, stainless steel instruments to identify and treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. This form of manual therapy is designed to have a faster recovery time, so it’s gaining momentum among pro athletes, and for a good reason.

Ramos Center is passionate about our patients and returning them to optimal functionality. As such, are excited to offer this procedure. Don’t worry; you don’t have to be a professional athlete to enjoy its benefits!

How does it work?

Soft tissue wraps around and connects muscles, bones, nerves, and blood vessels throughout the body. When these muscles are tight, they can stick together and tear resulting in injuries. These injuries restrict muscle movement, causing pain, soreness, and reduced flexibility.

Your clinician will use a tool to examine the soft tissue to check for injury while applying mild pressure. Scanning with the muscle fibers will help detect spots where adhesions or deficits are present. After identifying the problem areas, your clinician then chooses the proper tool to break apart the soft tissue adhesions by digging it down into the area around the muscle.

Each tool has unique edges and angles which allow for better penetration into places one usually can’t reach with hands alone. Thus, it’s a more efficient way to break down the tissue with shorter recovery time.

The Graston Technique® is backed by loads of research.

Studies have found that the process generates increased fibroblasts which are essential in wound healing. This procedure also stimulates circulation which increases oxygenated, nutrient-rich blood into the affected area. According to their website, The Graston Technique® is consistently achieving positive outcomes with an astonishing 75 to 90 percent of conditions treated having positive results.

Will it work for me?

The Graston Technique® will work for you even if you don’t have an acute or chronic injury. Think of it as a maintenance measure that treats any soft tissue injury causing limited mobility, pain, and stiffness. Regular scanning and treatments are especially helpful for athletes looking to stay ahead of their recovery. As such, several professional sports teams swear by this method.

Some patients see results quicker than others. Noticeable relief is often apparent after just one session, however, most experience positive results after their third or fourth visit. It all depends on the person and severity of their injury.
